This really is the oldest 'ralli' quilt I've seen, which has a look and texture similar to my great grandmothers quilts made in the early 20th century in the Ohio River Valley. They are what peaked my interest in such textiles at a very early age. This beautiful example is of patchwork floral motifs which create two medallions. The field is a ground of colorful wild flowers. There is one mica mirror placed in the center of one medillion, the only mirror on the entire quilt. The borders are beautifully pieced into whirling flowerheads. It has a thick batting inside, and the backing is from very old 'ajrak' block print. A rare and collectable example with great age, and my dating on this one is conservative. Dimensions and price on request.
