A rare example of quilting and embroidery work from the Pashayi people of the Nuristan area of Eastern Afghanistan, circa 1940's. The Pashayi are of Indo-Aryan descent, and have been isolated in the mountainess regions of Northeast Afghanistan until fairly recent in history. Their work on this example is done by layering the cotton ground to give it thickness and strength, using grey and brown dyed cotton thread to create the embroidered design. The condition of this piece is excellent, and it is a somewhat rare example with a soft feel and texture. Price on Request
