SOLD This is a fragment from a length of antique silk velvet ikat, circa 1875, Bukhara, Uzbekistan. It is certainly some of the most luxurious material ever made, using a very complicated technique, numerous dyers as the threads are dyed before being woven together on wooden handlooms which took six men to operate. It was produced with all natural dyes and the finest silk. Bukharan silk velvet ikat has become extremely scarce now, as it was the material of the very wealthy and little was made during a relatively short period of time during the 19th century. This worn but worthy fragment is still a quite beautiful example. It measures 40" x 7" at the widest point. SOLD
