This Uzkek ceremonial silk embroidered horsecover dates to the second half of the 19th century. The embroidery is done with organically dyed silk. The red base material is a red woolen trade cloth, as is the light green border surrounding the exterior. Silk fringes are also added for decoration. This horsecover has an early faux ikat backing. There is some staining and corrosion to the silk embroidery. This is a fine and beautiful example of how reverved and important the horse was to the Uzbek culture of the 19th century. Antique Uzbek horsecovers are now quite rare. Price on Request
