A beautiful 'chirpy' or woman's mantle, circa late 19th century, Tekke group of the nomadic Turkoman people, Middle Amu Darya. Silk embroidery on dark green silk ground, with russian cotton chintz lining and silk fringes. The color of the 'chirpy' denotes the marital status of the wearer. Worn over the head, the faux sleeves would have been connected together, and hung down the back. A beautiful piece of ethnographic art in great condition. These are becoming increasing rare.
