A wonderfully embroidered young woman's hat, circa 1910 or before, Gujarat, India. Embroidered with silk on silk, this example dislays six birds, hovering over a central roundel and a garden of floral forms. Mica mirrors ward off the evil eye, and give protection to the wearer.
