A fabulous antique 'phulkari' headcover/shawl, circa 1900, East Punjab, India. Floss silk embroidery on indigo dyed handspun cotton. This wonderful example displays a triangle on the left of the field containing silk embroidered jewelry ornaments, representing gold earrings, a nose ring and other adornments, symbolic of the aspirations of the bride and wishes for her dowry. The field is decorated with a variation of the 'buti' design. A magical piece with outstanding color and in excellent condition. More detailed images can be provided to serious buyers.
