A stunning and unusual Phulkari wedding headcover/shawl, circa 1900, East Punjab, India. This unusual example is embroidered with floss silk on a black cotton ground. There are some interesting design aspects to this shawl, such as the area left blank in the lower left side of the field. Obviously, it was intentional. Also to be noted, is the the second square in the bottom left of the field which contains both a gold earring and nose ring, symbolizing the aspirations of the bride for her wedding and future. This is a rare, beautiful shawl in good condition. SOLD
