Textiles | Antique Kyrgyz Mirror Cover
A wonderful composite embroidery work, circa 1900 or before, Kyrgyz nomads, the Pamir region of Northeast Afghanistan or Southern Uzbekistan. This rare example is made with fine silk embroidery on black velvet, using all natural dyes from various plant sources. The designs are drawn with both zoomorphic and stylized floral forms. The Kyrgyz traded for the velvet ground material and its use is mostly found in very old examples. This is a splenid piece with all the verve often seen in early pieces of the wandering Kyrgrz. It appears this example is composite made from a larger 'U' shaped embroidery which would have hung as decoration in the back of a yurt. There is wear to the black velvet and corrosion to the silk embroidery, but a very nice, collectable embroidery of merit. Price on Request
