A rare and beautiful embroidered tent decoration, late 19th century, Kyrgyz people, Wakhan corridor area, Northeast Afghanistan or Uzbekistan. This wonderful example is embroidered with silk on a cotton ground of black and red. The designs in the field show stylized falcon imagery, a very important animal in the life of the Kyrgyz. The center red square is surrounded by a series of repeating rams horns. The Kyrgyz are famous for their skill in training and hunting with both falcons and golden eagles. The ends of this piece are finished with small tassels of silk and metal thread. The colors are all from natural dye sources. The dimensions are 14.5"wd. x 23" w/o the tassels. The condition is very nice, however it is missing a few tassels from the bottom and there are some areas of corroded silk due to age. Price on Request
