SOLD A very beautiful embroidered 'kantha' coverlet or seating mat, circa 1900, undivided Bengal, India. A beautiful and rare example with great organic colors and a wonderfully kinetic design. Cotton embroidery on a layered and quilted muslin ground material. Nothing went to waste for these humble people. This wonderful example was made from recycled, old, disgarded women's 'saris' and men's 'dhoti'. An exquiste piece dislaying fine, very delicate and whimsical work. It has been drawn with a traditional central mandala motif and various hidden birds and animals. A very collectable 'kantha' in great condition. SOLD
