A magnificent antique 'kantha' embroidery, 19th century, undivided Bengal, India. Very delicate embroidery in beautiful condition and wonderful natural colors. Cotton quilting and embroidery on a layered cotton muslin ground. Made from old, recycled family garments such as women's 'sari' and men's 'dhoti'. Threads were unraveled from the old discarded garments and used to quilt and embroider these amazing pieces. This example displays wonderfully drawn human figures, a horse, chariot and central mandala as well as various floral forms and motifs. A fantastic, collectable example in excellent condition and with great age. SOLD
