A very beautiful hand embroidered woolen shawl, circa 1870, Kerman Province, Central Persia. Kerman is long known for it's tradition of exquisite textiles and rugs, and this example doesn't disappoint. Its well articulated center medallion seems to radiate light onto the floral motifs in each spandrel. The borders create a window into a splendid garden. The natural dyes are magnificent, with various shades of blue, green and ivory, all drawn on a ground of tomato red. There is some light wear, pulling of some threads and two small holes, otherwise the condition is very nice. This is a very handsome and collectable example which measures approx: 45" x 45".
