Textiles | Antique Embroidered Delhiwork Shawl

A very beautiful embroidered Delhiwork men's shawl, circa 1875 or before, Delhi or Kashmir, India. This fine example has been delicately embroidered in silk floss with three large 'boteh' at each end of the field and two facing 'boteh' protruding into each end of the red field. The borders are drawn with delightful floral clusters. The work, the design and colors are splendid and represent the high achievements of both the dyers and needleworkers. The overall condition is good, though there are two small holes in the red woolen ground and some minor fraying to the silk in places along the exterior border. The dimensions are 92" x 27".
