A finely embroidered 'Abochhini' headcover/shawl, 19th century, Sindh Province, Southern Pakistan. Probably Syed group, Tharparkar area. An unspun silk floating stitch is used to embroider repeating flowerheads on a very fine cotton muslin. It is thought that these sylized floral form represent the fruit of the 'falsa' plant. The half medallions on the sides, and quartered medallions in the corners are connected by a lattice repeating the same motif. A classic example with very good age, dating to at least the 4th Qt. of the 19th century, possibly earlier. Condition is excellent. A fine collectable example. Price on Request
