An ancient sandstone frieze, Khmer culture, circa 12th-13th century, Cambodia. This wonderful stone sculpture symbolizes wisdom conquering ignorance; thus the sword raised above the head of 'wisdom' or truth, and stepping on and conquering the 'monkey mind' of ignorance and negative karma. The ancient Khmer culture practised a unique, non-violent mix of both Hindu and Buddhist traditions. This is a wonderful sculpture, which has been in our collection for over 30 years. Acquired from an old estate in Seattle, Wa. USA. Dimensions; 20" tall x 19" x 6", not including the custom base. This is a stellar example and displays beautifully.
