A beautiful, ancient grey schist stone frieze, Kushan period, circa 2nd to 3rd century, Gandhara Kingdom, Afghanistan/Pakistan border. This wonderful example displays five devotees with offerings. An angel or cherub floats above their heads. There is ancient loss and some of the faces are completely gone, but it is still a magnificent example with great presence. The classic Greaco Bactrian style of scupture was brought by Alexander's armies to Central Asia in the 4th century B.C., and was essentially the first Buddhist art. 24" x 13". SOLD
