A very beautiful bagface, once part of a double saddlebag, circa 1890 or before, Shahsavan nomads, Northwest Persia. This piece is done in soumakh technique with repeating horizontal hooked designs. The colors are natural with deep indigo in shades of blue and green, with madder reds and dark maroon. The main border is very nicely drawn with a design more often found in tribal weavings farther south, specifically the Lurs. This bagface might have been made by the 'Hastrud' group of Shahsavan, who inhabit the most southern territories of this nomadic group. There has been some securing of the closure tabs, otherwise this bagface is in excellent condition. SOLD
