A classic 'chuval' or transport bag, circa 1880's, Saryk group, Upper Amu Darya, Turkmenistan. All natural dyes with what appears to be generous use of cochineal, an insect dye. Very densely woven, and a wonderful handle. Overall condition is good, with the exception of one, old darn to the middle top. This chuval' (transport bagface) displays 4x4 rows of 'guls' using one of the Saryk's main tribal emblems. A beautiful skirt of stylized shrubs or flowers decorates the lower panel. The dimensions are 60" x 37" (152cm x 94cm). Price on Request
