Rugs & Bags | Antique Qashqai Bagface
A beautiful saddlebag face, circa 1880, Qashqai nomads, Fars Province, SW Persia. This piece has amazing saturated natural dyes, very glossy wool and a fabulous, somewhat rare 'latch hook' design. The materials which went into the making of this example are all the best. I would have to believe it was not made for commercial purposes, but for the tribes own use. The varity of color is superb; from a deep indigo, sky blue and teal, to clear madder red and soft lemon yellow. The weaver also used varying shades of undyed brown and ivory wool. The brocade work along the top is very fine and precise. The filler motifs are spaciously placed and seem to float on the deep blue ground. The reciprocal border is beautifully drawn, and it's narrow width a good indication of age. There are three small holes and a bit of wear along the bottom edge and middle, but the overall condition is nice. A very rare and collectable example. Price on Request
