SOLD A stellar example of a nomads saddle bag, circa 1880, Qashqai group, SW Persia. This finely woven bag features a field design motif found in rug borders from the Caucasus, and also with pieces woven by the Kurds of NW Persia, as well as the tribes of the Veramin plateau. I believe this design is quite rare to be found in a piece by the Qashqai group. The colors are truly magnificent, the wool quality is the best and the condition is mint. The field design is thought to represent stylized dragons, a motif that can be traced as far back as the 16th century in rugs from Anatolia. The colors are all from the best natural dyes sources. There are horizontal bands of undyed camel wool on the flat woven back. This is a wonderful, rare and collectable example in pristine condition. It measures 17"ht. x 18"wd. SOLD
