Rugs & Bags | Antique Baluch Saddle Cover
A rare and beautiful saddle cover, circa 1890 or before, produced by one of the Baluch groups of Sarahks area, Khorasan, Northeast Persia. Wool on wool with all natural dyes. A very interesting central turrented 'gul' and beautiful, changing border systems. The slit where the pommel would have slipped through has been sewn closed. There is a nice teal color, a few touches of yellow and a few knots of pinkish-apricot. I found this piece in Hudson, N.Y. It had been made into a pillow, as with two other bagfaces. I was very happy to find when the pillow backing was removed, the piece was not cut and the complete saddle cover remained intact. More images and dimensions can be provided with inquiry. Very collectable example. Price on Request
