Rugs & Bags | Antique Baluch Main Carpet
A very beautiful and somewhat rare 'main carpet', circa 1880, Timuri group, Baluch people, Western Afghanistan. All natural dyes and beautiful glossy wool. Each end still retains their long, split-warp technique skirts. Varying shades of indigo blue, madder root with dyed and natural browns. This example has very beautiful green which is difficult to capture in the images. This carpet would have been used as the center piece of a nomadic Baluch tent during special occasions. it was not for everyday use, and why it has survived in very good condition. It does have a few repairs, but done expertly. Even the original split warp kilim ends are nicely preserved. Large Baluchi weavings are now quite difficult to find. A beautiful and very collectable example. Ex-Gary Wisdom Collection, but not published. Contact us for more details and photos if needed. Price on Request
