Rugs & Bags | Antique Baluch Group Rug
This is a very fine antique so called 'wedding' rug, circa 1920-30's, Khorasan region of Northeast Persia. Rugs with this design are often attributed the the 'Salor Khani' sub group of the Baluch. If this is accurate is debatable, though it was produced in the region of Turbat-i-Haidari, where the 'herati' design which this piece displays, seemed to be popular in the early the 20th century. The weave pattern is extremely fine, and the embroidery work on the flatwoven ends is beautifully done. There appear to be both synthetic and natural dyes used, which points to a later period of production. The piece has a 'frosty' appearance and has proved difficult to photograph. This little rug is in excellent condition, though it could use a good stretch. SOLD
