Rugs & Bags | Antique Baluch Chanteh

This is a very beautiful little fragment of a dowry bag or 'chanteh' which has been opened. The dimensions are 18" x 8". It dates to somewhere well into the 19th century, Khorasan region of NE Persia. The colors are all natural with a deep midnight blue, a wonderful bottle green and a clear madder orange. The wool is glossy and soft. The field of each side is decorated by a central flower and surrounded by floating 'botehs' and white star motifs. The borders are drawn with a stylized floral meandor and a deeply saturated madder root orange ground color. This chanteh has been cut in the middle and sewn back together, and it is missing from all sides. It is a rare and beautiful piece with very good age. Price on Request
