A very beautiful 'chanteh' or valuables bag, circa 1920 or before, Baluch people, Sistan desert region, Southest Persia. A wonderful example of weaving from these Baluchi nomads, with very saturated, natural dyes and glossy wool. The outer border is nicely drawn with the shrub or flower motif found on older examples of these types of bags. This piece is piled on both sides, with a central hooked octagon placed on a deep indigo blue field. Full pile condition, with all tassels still intact. The tassels have embroidered bands of decoration. A collectable, doubled sided bag from one of the Sistan Baluch groups. Price on Request
