A dark and mysterious 'balisht' grain storage bag, one of the Baluch groups, 19th century, Western Afghanistan. This beautiful example is drawn with a repeated diagonal descending 'shrub' design. Super soft, shiny wool with a velvety handle. Some wear and corrosion, but still a nice, collectable example with a somewhat wear design. I believe it was wriiten in a John Anderson interveiw, that the Baluch found these dark and somber pieces soothing to the eyes, after spending so much time in the hot, bright, and arid envriomment they inhabited.
