This is a beautiful little Afshar chanteh (valubles bag), circa 1890, Kerman Province, Southeast Persia. It is most likely the work of a nomadic group, as the wool is the best with a fabulous soft handle. The colors are all from natural dyes, beautiful and rich, and display a wide variety; from deep and medium indigo, to soft yellow, lavender pink and green. It has been drawn with two large 'boteh', enclosed within a repeated diamond border. The flatwoven back shows horizonal solid stripes and has a very soft texture. The sides are overcast with a multiple colored chevron technique. The chanteh measures 10 1/2" x 9 1/2". * Please note, the photos appears a little dark. The wool is so nice it was difficult to photgraph. No repairs that I can see, with low allover even wear. Price on Request
