This is a very beautiful 'chanteh' or valuables bag, early 20th century, Afshar nomadic group, Kerman province, SW Persia. This handsome example displays very saturated natural dyes, and glossy wool. The closures are worked in a weft float technique, the rest in knotted pile. The sides have been wrapped in a chevron design of natural undyed ivory and brown. The flat woven back is horizontal rows of a soft golden color and a very light shade of cardamom. The overall condition is very good, though there are some moth nibbles here and there. All of the goat hair closure loops are intact. The piece has been washed and is ready for display. The dimensions are 19"wd. x 15"ht. Price on Request
