This antique Mahal corridor carpet displaying a repeating 'herati' pattern, one of the favorite motifs used by the Kurds in the town of Mahallet around the turn of the 20th century. Pleasant natural dyes were used. This piece must of had an issue laying flat, as an old 12" band of glue was used on the backside to prevent its puckering. It was probably done about 1950, when such practices were common. It seems to have worked, as the piece will remain flat on the floor. A handsome, very decorative example from an old Cairo, Eygpt collection, brought to the States around 1940. Price on Request
