A fantasically embroidered and bedazzled wedding dress front or 'gaj', circa mid 19th century or before, Thar Desert region, Rajasthan, India. The outstanding example has been embroidered with silk, cotton, silver and gold/copper thread, beads, metal discs and sequins, as well as gold or copper and silver wire work known as 'nehran' embroidery, and as one would expect, mica mirrors. It is a feast for the eyes, and certainly one of a kind, with two people atop camels, charming beaded tufts and fancy crocheted trim across the bottom. The condition is extremely good considering its age, showing little wear, no holes or any real damage. It has obviously been lovingly cared and cherished over the years. A highly collectable and very unique example. The dimensions are 36" x 23" (91cm x 58cm). Price on Request
