Embroidery India/Pakistan | Semi-Antique Sindh 'Gaj'
A stunning piece of embroidery from Sindh, probably Sodha Rajput group, circa 1940, Sindh, Pakistan. This wonderful 'gaj' or dress front displays very intricate work in silk floss, and is adorned with mica mirrors, called 'bacharo'. The fineness of the work is difficult to capture accurately, due how small and tight the stitcehes were laid. The colors are a harmonious blend of olive and burnt madder orange and a deep indigo blue. The exterior borders are done in 'soof' stitch, creating a wonderful zigzag design. The overall condition is good, however there is staining on some areas on the bright blue cotton outer border panel. (This border may not be original to the piece). The dimensions are 34" x 24"wd. not including the beadswork and metal discs along the sides and bottom edge. A very collectable example. Price on Request
