A magnificent example of a woman's wedding tunic (chola), early 20th century, Thano Bula Khan, Sindh Province, South Pakistan. This amazing tunic is heavily embroidered with polychrome silk and gold wire-wrapped threads. A number of embroidery stitches have been used; the main stitch being the 'phulrho' stitch, as well as the buttonhole, open chain, and square stitch. The density of the embroidery is mind boggling. These tunics were produced by young girls in three base colors, red, yellow and green. One for the wedding night, one for the henna ceremony, and one for visiting her parents after the wedding. Obviously, this young bride was already quite adept with an embroidery needle. The back of this piece is nearly as amazing as the front. This tunic would benefit from a good cleaning, otherwise it is in excellent condition. A very collectable example. Price on Request
