A very beautiful 'Mochi' group embroidered fragment employing the cobbler's stitch, circa 1880 or before, Kutch, Gujarat, India. This silk on silk embroidery is most likely the fragment from a length of skirt. An 'aal' was used it's production, creating some of the finest handwork found in any culture. The piece is drawn with a repeating design of peacocks and floral bouquets. Though there is corrosion to the silk, what remains is absolutely splendid, displaying extremely fine work and deeply saturated natural dyes. A collectable example of an art form from a bygone era.
