SOLD A very beautiful quilted and embroidered 'kantha', circa 1900, undivided Bengal, India. This wonderful example displays a central lotus medallion surrounded by a field containing human figures and various floral forms, all drawn in red and blue. There are three large borders drawn with various stylized floral designs in red, blue and black. All dyes are natural. The muslin ground has a very fine rippled effect due to the amazingly, small quilting. All materials are recycled from worn and discarded family sari and dhoti, which have been deconstructed, and reworked to create this beaufiful example. Nothing ever went to waste in the humble yet artistic villiages of Bengal. This piece is in excellent condition for being well over one hundred years old. SOLD
