Embroidery India/Pakistan | Antique Embroidered Sindh Rumal
SOLD* A very nice example of a semi-antique embroidered 'rumal' or 'roomal', circa 1940's. Bhalwa area of Tharparkar, Sindh, Pakistan. These coverlets were embroidered by the bride to wrap gifts for the bridegroom. This beautiful piece has been lovely embroidered by women of the Meghwar or Suthar groups, employing 'kacho soof' and 'pakkoh soof 'stitches, as well as various types of running stitches. The work is precise and very detailed. Whimsical waving human figures, peacocks, stylized mountains and various geometric motifs decorate the field. All are enclosed within a sawtooth and cruciform interior border, and an outer border with an arrow type motif. The overall condition is very nice, however there is some light staining due to age and use. The dimensions are approx: 21" x 21". SOLD
