Embroidery India/Pakistan | Antique Embroidered Sindh Rumal
A finely embroidered square cloth or 'rumal', circa 1st Qt. 20th century, probably Sodha Rajput group, Sindh province, SE Pakistan. This charming example has been embroidered with floss silk on a cotton muslin ground. The center square has been decorated with a star and diamond design. The field has been embroidered with stylized floral, plant and mountain forms, delightful human figures, scorpions, camels and peacocks. Much of the embroidery is done with white silk, and against the white background it is difficult to photograph and capture the intricacy of the work. There is wear and some light staining due to age and use, but the condition is very presentable. It is now difficult to find truly antique rumals. The dimensions are approx: 15" x 15".
