A beautiful pair of antique embroidered door decorations, 1st third, 20th century, Saurashtra, Gujarat, India. The embroidery is worked in floss silk, displaying star motifs and checkered x's. The original five-sided printed cotton panels are attached at the bottom. These embroidered pairs were hung on either side of the entrance to a home. A horizontal embroidery known as a 'toran' was typically placed above them, across the header of the door. This pair was embroidered in silk as opposed to cotton, an indication of good age. There are both natural and synthetic dyes. Price on Request
