Embroidery India/Pakistan | Semi-Antique Dwarka Quilt
This is a wonderful example of a child's embroidered quilt, circa 1st half 20th century, Ahir or Chaaran Gadhvi communities, Saurashtra, Gujarat, India. It is one of the oldest examples I've seen of this type of work. The center is of finely embroidered cotton, displaying whimsically drawn elephants and birds, surrounded by various floral motifs. Enclosing the center are retangular stripes of printed and unprinted cotton and satin cloth which have been placed on a layered, quilted with running stitch ground. Intricate applique work forms exterior borders which have also been embroidered. Much love and time went into the creation of this beautiful example. Some very slight wear due to age, but the overall condition is excellect. This type of quilt has not been produced for at least fifty years in this area, making this a very collectable example. The dimensions are 48" x 30". SOLD
