A beautiful semi-antique cotton embroidered 'supari' folding bag, circa 1st half 20th century, Banjara community, Karnataka, South India. This splendid example was usually given as a dowry gift from the bride to the groom, intended for storing the accoutrements for the chewing of 'paan' or betel nut, the mild stimulent popular allover India. The work of this beautiful folding bag is very fine and dense, with wonderful designs and rich colors. It has also been embellished with small mica mirrors and pieces of decorative lead in the shape of balls and discs. This bag is in very nice condition. The dimensions are approx; 18" long x 6.5"wd.
