A beautiful embroidered square bag, circa 1940's, Banjara community, Karnataka, South India. This wonderful cotton bag has been embroidered, appliqued and embellished with mica mirrors small and large, leaded beads, brass and cowrie shells. All the colors appear to be from natural sources. The ornamentation of this charming item is a good indication that it once belonged to a person of high status within the tribe, such as the wife of a 'naik' or headsman. The condition of this example is excellent. It measures approx: 6" x 6" without the tassels. Price on Request
