Textiles of the Banjara | Semi Antique Banjara Waist Band
SOLD* This is quite a stunning waistband panel dating to the mid 20th century, probably Banjara community of the Shimoga Hills region, Karnataka, South India. The eye dazzling design was created in both chain and a raised satin stitch. The effect creates a kinetic design that is both precise and fluid. The frame surrounding the zigzag motif is in satin stitch, and seems to create a window into an infinite design that continues beneath the framework. The lower right portion is embellished with small lead discs, one of the most distinguishing features of the Banjara that denotes family and community position of the wearer. This is a splendid and collectable example in excellent condition. The dimensions are approx: 30" x 8". SOLD
