Textiles of the Banjara | Antique Woolen Banjara Bag
A rare and beautiful embroidered woolen pouch, circa early 20th century, Banjara community, Madhya Pradesh, Central India. Embroideries in wool are sparse and sought after by collectors of Banjara material, as they are of the oldest and most collectable. A wonderful quality that comes with great age is the use of vegetable dyes. This piece has wonderful organic colors such indigo blues and teal, and madder root oranges and reds. There is also use of undyed browns and ivory. This bag has been decorated with different designs on each side, one with squared dice and the other with diamond motifs. The overall condition is very nice, but there are areas of slight wear and corrosion of color due to age and use. The dimensions are 8" x 7.5". This bag has a very soft and beautiful patina to the wool. Price on Request.
