A superb example of a 'pulia', used during water carrying, circa early 20th century, Banjara communityi, Karnataka, South India. A wonderful piece with exquisite embroidery work, splendid natural colors and pristine condition. Much love and work went into the creation of this every day item used for covering a woman's neck when hauling water from the village well. Numerous embroidery techniques were employed, such as a raised satin stitch, buttonhole stitch, running stitch and chain stitches. Mica mirrors, cowrie shells and cotton tufts also decorate the surface of this exemplary 'pulia'. The dimensions are 11" x 7.5" Price on Request
