This is the finest work of any 'pulia' I've handled or seen. It dates to around circa 1900, and was created by the Banjara nomads in the region of Karnataka, South India. The embroidery work rivals any work from Asia or Europe. The treads are so fine it is difficult to tell if they are silk or cotton. I believe at least some of the work is in silk. The natural colors are rich and saturated. The condition is very good with only a minor tear in the upper corner and light, scattered wear. The dimensions are 14" x 11" without the tassels.
