This is a very old and rare woolen example of a Banjara ritual embroidered panel, circa 2nd half 19th century, probably Madhya Pradesh, Central India. The fact that this piece was embroidered in wool, with the use of all vegetable dyes in its production points to great age. The designs are wonderfully executed with geometric motifs in wool, with cotton applique used to form borders around the exterior. The condition is quite good considering the age of the piece with just minor fraying and loss. The colors remain rich and clear, a testament to the dye masters during the 19th century. This panel measures 25" x 7.5". Price on Request
