Textiles of the Banjara | Antique Banjara Square Cloth
A very old and interesting embroidered square cloth, circa early 20th century, Banjara community, Karnataka, South India. This is a very intricate piece with a number of embroidery techniques in wool and cotton. The designs are reminiscent of stained glass. The colors are rich and vibrant, yet mellowed with age. They appear to be from natural dye sources. The condition is a bit rough, with wear and small holes here and there, bit what it lacks in condition is certainly made up in the dynamics of the design. There still are some remaining cowrie shells as well as a leaded tassel in the very center. It was possible it folded and sewn for use as a bread bag at one time. The dimensions are approx: 21" x 22". Price on Request
