This is a rare antique ceremonial shield cover, circa early 20th century, Banjara community, Madhya Pradesh, Central India. This interesting embroidered, patchwork and appliqued artifact was used during certain rituals and festivals to cover the circular brass shield when not in use. The work is very beautiful displaying fine embroidery, pricise applique. All colors used for dying the cotton ground material is from natural dyes such as madder root and indigo. The piece has also been decorated with lead bead tassels and mica mirrors. It would make a fantastic pillow cover. The dimensions are approx: 17" x 17". A very collectable item which is now very difficult find. The condition is very nice for its age. Price on Request
