This is a beautifully embroidered ritual cloth or coverlet, circa early 20th century, Banjara community, Madhya Pradesh, Central India. The piece has been worked in a number of techniques including running, darning and stitches, and a diagonal straight stitch. It also displays wonderful applique work, and has been adorned with cowrie shells around the exterior. This example is in excellent condition. The dimensions are approx: 18" x 18".
