This is a superb embroidered 'pulia', circa early 20th century, Banjara community, Karnataka, South India. The quality of work, and saturation of natural dyes make this example one of the oldest and best I've owned. The embroidery work rivals suzani from Uzbekistan, Ottoman embroidery, or even the extremely fine work of the Mochi embroiderers from Kutch. This example displays precise and delicate motifs which are from long a tradition of design from this group. It was certainly made to showcase the embroiderers skill. The condition is very nice for it's age, and the loss of a few cowries and tassels is to be expected with a piece made for use during the early 20th century. The dimensions are 14" x 10"wd without the tassels. A very collectable example. Price on Request (expensive)
